0:00: Hey ladies, welcome back to the Sales Mama podcast.
0:04: I am your host, Sausha Davis, and I want to share a little bit more about my story and why I decided to shift how I showed up in my business because I took a big step back a few years ago.
0:26: I started my business, oh gosh.
0:30: I think I really went in on it back in like 2017 and I mean, I went like in.
0:39: I was like, screw corporate, like I'm going to figure it out, right?
0:44: I'm one of those people that just jumps all in and, you know, I'll figure it out type of thing.
0:49: I'm not like a tiptoe in type of person.
0:52: I'm like, Mall in, we're we're going, we're going in, we're diving in the deep end.
0:56: We'll figure it out.
0:57: We're sink or swim, right?
0:59: And.
1:01: With that, I grew my business pretty quickly.
1:06: I was doing all the things, all the things myself, as one does when they first start a business and I going back to, you know, the hyper-independence, like nobody else can do the things that I do, the way that I do it,, you know, it was a way to set myself up for failure.
1:24: And I was burnt out very, very quickly, as many of the women that I talked to are.
1:32: They find out that as they start their business, they realize or don't realize that You know, they, they get into it thinking that they wanna, you know, help a specific audience or help a specific person with a specific problem or they get into it because they're passionate about something or they're feeling really creative about something or they feel called to do something, but they don't really realize all of the inner workings of a business, at least not to the extent of how it, you know, quote unquote should look, right?
2:08: And there's a million different ways to run your business.
2:10: Like, let's be honest, there's not like a one size fits all.
2:12: But what I see happen and what happened to me is you wear all the hats and you want everything to I mean, like I, I wanted to be great at everything.
2:26: Like I strive for excellence in everything.
2:29: Like I hate the word perfect because like I am so far from perfect, but I want to be great.
2:35: I want to be excellent.
2:36: Like I want to, I'm very competitive and so I want to be good at what I do.
2:43: And so When I put myself out there, I, you know, when I do websites or, you know, and I, I know like right now things are in a transition, listen to me just like minimizing myself.
2:57: Anyways, when I was building business several years ago, This is what happened.
3:04: I grew very, very quickly and I was burnt out and I was overwhelmed.
3:09: I mean, like I was burnt out.
3:11: At one point I had like 30 something one on one clients per week and I was taking sales calls.
3:21: Like holy shit.
3:23: I don't know what your guys' business model is, but if you think about doing 30 1 on one calls, not only is that about Thirty-ish hours give or take, but there's planning that goes into those before and after, and I was still enrolling into You know, my other programs, I was still putting content out there.
3:48: I was still building things.
3:50: I mean, I was doing all the things, right?
3:55: As I was building business, I had almost zero time for my family, which part of the reason that I got into business was to have more time freedom, was to have more financial freedom, and I really enjoyed what I did, but I found that I was right back into The same boat that I was in with corporate.
4:16: I was working from sun up to sundown.
4:17: I took that same mentality that I had in corporate and put it right back into my own dang business.
4:25: I am.
4:26: And so I didn't rewrite any rules for myself.
4:31: I just took the same box that I was in and put that box back, I put myself back in a box and slapped my own name on it.
4:45: And that didn't feel very good.
4:47: It didn't feel very good at all.
4:49: And I didn't know how to get myself out of this box.
4:52: I had no idea how to get myself out of this box.
4:55: I knew how to grow a business.
4:57: I knew how to make money.
4:58: I knew how to do, you know, I knew how to help clients, I knew how to grow a business, I knew how to do all of these things, but I didn't know how to get myself out of this box that I put myself in.
5:10: I was burnt out.
5:11: I was overwhelmed.
5:12: I was getting to the point where I was angry and resentful again, which is what I was in my corporate job because there was not enough time in the day, right?
5:22: You're working sun up from sundown.
5:24: I was in corporate management and I mean, again, I was really good at my job.
5:29: And it's not that like I absolutely hated it.
5:32: It's just like how did I end up there?
5:35: Like, you know, one day I just like, it wasn't just one day I woke up, but you know, it happens over time where you're like, what the fuck am I doing with my life?
5:44: Right?
5:44: You kind of have that like awakening and you realize, holy smokes, like there's more to life than just paying bills and dying, you know, like what, what do I want to do?
5:55: What do I get to do?
5:56: When do I make time for myself and the things that I enjoy.
6:01: Like I did this for time freedom.
6:02: I did this for financial freedom.
6:03: I did this so I didn't have to pay somebody else to raise my kids, and here I am building my business, paying somebody else to raise my kids.
6:13: And so that was a few years or a couple of years into my business.
6:17: And honestly, it was a big slap in the face and externally, I looked very successful.
6:23: And I was, you know, by industry standards, right?
6:26: You know, it was the multiple six-figure business.
6:28: I was hitting, you know, 10K plus and, you know, all of those numbers.
6:34: But, you know, when my clients were getting really good success, you know, I had great launches,, my social media was doing pretty good, you know what I mean?
6:42: Like, externally, like everything was going great.
6:46: And I felt good for the most part, but I was lacking the time freedom, right?
6:53: Like I still, I had location freedom.
6:56: I had a little bit of financial freedom.
7:00: But I was lacking the time freedom part, and that's something that I really, really, really desired.
7:08: And it was missing, like really missing.
7:12: And so I took a step back, and this is where I say not everybody's in a growth period, right?
7:18: Not everybody's in a growth period.
7:20: And so sometimes people look at me or, you know, they, they join or they want to join my group and Or, you know, just sometimes people are triggered by other people that are like, go, go, go, like, you know, they're in growth periods and people can become triggered by it.
7:34: Listen, not everybody's in a growth period, and if you're not in a growth period, it's OK.
7:40: Like your growth period will come.
7:42: You'll feel that inspired action, like, use it, use that inspired action.
7:48: Like it will all of a sudden come and you'll feel on fire, and that is the thing.
7:54: And sometimes You have to be a little bit disciplined and sometimes you have to, you know, artificially create a little bit of it, and sometimes you have to join,, people who will help ignite that fire, right?
8:08: And so that's what I have to do, you know, I have to be around people that, cause I'm a projector, so a lot of times I have to be around people that will, you know, ask me things that ignite that fire within me.
8:21: And so sometimes I have a hard time igniting that my own fire.
8:25: And so when people ask me certain questions or for advice on certain things, it ignites that fire within me because I'm like, yes, like, I know these things, you know, I have that innate knowing and I've, I don't know, I'm not like Jane of all trades, Jack of all trades.
8:41: Like, it's, it's an insane amount of knowledge that I have in this big old head of mine.
8:50: It's Sometimes it's useless knowledge, but for whatever reason, I have, I don't know, I have a fuck ton of knowledge.
8:57: , I'm that goofy ass nerd that just like reads books in her spare time and watches documentaries and I don't know, I'm just like soaking up all the things.
9:07: I'm listening to all the podcasts, reading all the books.
9:09: I just, I find it fascinating.
9:10: I love learning about all that.
9:11: I just love learning.
9:12: Like it's my favorite thing.
9:14: And,, and it benefits myself, it benefits my clients.
9:18: But anyways, so I took a big step back in my business because I, I had like a what the fuck am I doing moment, right?
9:27: I was like, what the fuck am I doing?
9:28: Like, I'm teaching all these people about time freedom, financial freedom, like, you know, living the life they love, and I'm sitting over here and I feel like I'm putting myself back in a miserable situation, even though You know, I was traveling all over.
9:43: I mean, we were doing a lot of really fun stuff.
9:45: Like, don't get me wrong, but I felt like I was always glued to my phone or glued to my computer because I was always with a client, you know, like there was times where we went on vacation in, you know, Florida or Hawaii or South Padre or like, you know, all of these really, Colorado, Montana, I mean, all kinds of really cool places and I'd have to like run to my car and do a client call, you know, I mean.
10:14: You know, some people are gonna be like, oh yeah, poor you, but at the same time, like, that's not the business that I wanted to create for myself.
10:22: Was it better than what I had?
10:23: Yeah, but was it what I wanted?
10:26: No, right?
10:28: And so, I had that kind of come into Jesus moment and I really started to feel down on myself and I started to spiral.
10:37: I'm not gonna lie, I started to spiral and I was just kind of like, Sasha, who the fuck are you?
10:42: You know, all that imposter syndrome stuff.
10:45: And I took a major step back in my business when we left Iowa and we traveled in an RV for a little over a year.
10:53: And another reason is we were traveling and we went to a lot of really remote places, and so we didn't have a lot of service.
10:59: And so it was just like that permission I needed to just like take a big step back in my business and figure out who the fuck I was again.
11:06: Like, what, what am I about?
11:08: What am I doing?
11:09: And so I went all in with like the consulting side of things, which was essentially doing like sales calls and sales teams and things like that for, bigger businesses, you know, like large businesses, medium sized businesses, you know, seven-figure businesses and stuff like that instead of helping,, you know, smaller businesses with, you know, with,, with scaling, you know,, and so that went really well for a while until that, that fire inside me started to, you know, kind of come back up again.
11:42: , because, you know, all of a sudden you start to see things and then it's like, OK, somebody should do something about this.
11:49: Somebody should do something about this.
11:50: Somebody should do something about this, and then you look at yourself in the mirror and you're like, oh shit, I'm, I'm somebody, like I could fix this problem.
11:58: And so I had kind of a full circle moment of, you know what?
12:04: I'm ready to, I'm ready to redo this, and I'm ready to do this in a way that has this time freedom approach, this family first approach, because the last few years, I have had that forefront and center where I'm, I, I'm not going to sacrifice my entire day, my entire life to do anything.
12:29: For anybody else.
12:31: Like it's just not gonna happen.
12:32: Like I love my clients dearly.
12:36: But I love my family more.
12:40: I love myself more.
12:43: And it took me a while to admit that.
12:46: It took me a while to understand that.
12:50: And when I can have that family first and self first mentality, it also gives others permission to do that, right?
13:01: And so instead of having all of these burnt out mothers and Burnt out, you know, women and and families, essentially.
13:11: It's giving others permission to build a business that works for them.
13:16: And so how do we do that?
13:18: We do that through systems.
13:20: We do that through automation.
13:21: We do that through showing up as the leader that you are supposed to be.
13:28: And so it's not just like hiding in the shadows.
13:32: It's really showing up and delegating and building a team and having people who are aligned with your vision.
13:42: And sometimes it's scary because you have to have uncomfortable conversations.
13:46: And so you have to show up in such a bigger way, and for some people, that's really intimidating.
13:53: And there's so many thoughts and beliefs and things that come up that you have to work through.
13:57: And that's OK.
13:59: That's part of the journey, right?
14:00: That's the self part of the journey.
14:02: That's the spiritual side of the journey.
14:04: And I don't feel like there's enough people talking about as you're building a business, that there's this whole self personal development, spiritual development side of things, in addition to the systems, the software, the strategy, the automation, the team building, the leadership, the actual skills of sales and marketing.
14:26: And they blend together, and that is what creates success.
14:31: It's not one or the other, it's the two together, because if you have, you know, the right mindset and everything, great, but if you don't have the sustainable systems or the right team in place, it's hard to scale, you know, or at least it's hard to get past a certain point.
14:48: And on the other side of things, like you could have all the right systems and strategy and be really, really good at that side of things.
14:56: But if you lack confidence, if you lack leadership skills, if you lack,, you know, the ability to believe in yourself or to put yourself out there, and, you know, a myriad of other things, you're going to have a hard time scaling as well, right?
15:11: And so it is this blend, right?
15:15: This yin and yang, this feminine and masculine, you need both.
15:20: And so there's a lot of folks out there that are, you know, very flowy and feminine, and there's many folks out there that are very, you know, rigid and masculine.
15:30: And so the reason I have sales mom or have sales mama school is to blend the feminine and the masculine, is to blend the rigid and the flow, because you need both.
15:43: And for whatever reason, I have been blessed to have an analytical and a creative brain, which I didn't even realize I had.
15:54: Until this past few years, I honestly thought that everybody's brain really worked that way,, for the longest time until I, you know, started to learn more about myself, and I realized that most people don't think this way, right?
16:11: And I think a lot of us do this.
16:12: We just make the assumption that everybody knows the things that we do and then it comes easy to everybody else.
16:17: Until we start talking to others and then we're like, Oh shit, like this is hard for other people.
16:23: And then that's the thing that we can teach with ease, right?
16:28: That's the thing that we can help others with because it comes naturally, it comes easily to us, right?
16:34: And so think about that.
16:35: What's something that you're passionate about, but that comes easily and naturally to you that you can help others with?
16:41: And so this is something that has always come easily and naturally to me.
16:46: And I didn't really think of it as a skill.
16:48: I just thought of it as like, this is just a thing, right?
16:53: And so, until recently,, and recently, meaning like within the last 5 years, right?
16:58: .
16:58: , I'm like, OK, this is something that I can help people with.
17:04: Like, I can actually help blend these things, helping them with the feminine and the masculine, helping them with the mindset and the spirituality, helping them with the confidence and the belief and the impostor syndrome, while simultaneously helping them with their Facebook campaigns and helping them with their systems and their strategies and their funnels and their website builds and Building their team and helping them get setters and closers and virtual assistants and you know, putting themselves out there a little bit more, right?
17:33: Building their actual structure of their business to the point where they can scale to, you know, $500 million or a million dollars or whatever it is that they want to go to.
17:43: And most of the people that come to me, that's what they want.
17:47: They want million dollar plus businesses.
17:49: They don't want to play small.
17:51: You know, the next step for them is typically You know, 2030 or 50,000, but that's just the next step.
17:58: Like they don't want to stop there.
18:00: They want to go to a million or more, right?
18:03: They're the big dreamers.
18:05: They're the people who want a team.
18:07: They want to change the world.
18:09: They want to have, you know, a mission and have people who are also aligned.
18:15: And you know it is a little bit scary when you start to Give you know, tasks over to somebody to somebody else, because I think we all may have a little bit of trust issues, right?
18:27: , or at least I have,, I've been burnt in the past many, many times, which is why I consider myself a little hyper-end, which is obviously something that I have worked through and continue to work through.
18:40: But once we start to work through that fear and build a team and learn to trust again.
18:49: It is so freeing to say, I can hand this over and somebody can take care of it for me.
18:59: And that person has that responsibility and they feel empowered to be able to do it and to get paid well for it, and to be able to help you support your mission and vision, and especially if it's something that they also align with, because honestly, not everybody wants to build a business.
19:19: Not everybody does.
19:20: I know a lot of people think everybody does, not everybody does.
19:23: Trust me, not everybody does, OK?
19:26: It's a lot of fucking work.
19:27: It's a lot of fucking work.
19:29: OK.
19:30: And there's people out there who just want to support you and that is perfect because we need those people.
19:37: We need those people.
19:40: Let me say that again, we need those people.
19:42: I cannot stress this enough.
19:44: If everybody wanted to build a business, this world would collapse, OK?
19:48: We need those support people.
19:50: Just as much as we need the entrepreneurs and everything else, OK?
19:54: So, every, each, each type of person helps make this world go round, OK?
20:03: So, what I want to leave you with today is a few things here that If you are feeling burnt out and overwhelmed and stressed and like, how am I gonna scale this business?
20:16: It's time to have a really serious conversation with yourself.
20:20: What is your next step?
20:22: And if you're not sure, if you're not sure how you're gonna scale.
20:27: I seriously think that we need to have a conversation and you need to message me over at Sasha Davis Instagram or Sales Mama School Instagram or find me at salesamma.biz.
20:38: Send me a message because I have a solution for you, OK?
20:45: But if you're at a place where you're not sure if you're ready to scale, know that that's OK.
20:52: It's OK to allow yourself to just take a step back for a while until you get your bearings again and figure out what your next move is, OK?
21:01: Because there's nothing worse than forcing yourself into growth.
21:06: That is a fast track to even more burnout, OK?
21:12: And the other thing that I want to leave you with is there is not a one size fits all to growing your business.
21:17: I know there's a lot of gurus out there that are like, oh, just do this, and that'll help you make millions, or just do this.
21:25: Listen.
21:26: There is foundations to every business.
21:29: But every business can grow a little bit different.
21:33: OK?
21:33: You have to find what works for you because ultimately, if you are not aligned with that method of scaling, you will not do it, right?
21:44: If I were to sit here and be like, hey, I need you to do X Y Z and you were like, Sasha, that sounds like it sucks.
21:50: You're not gonna do it.
21:51: You're not gonna do it.
21:52: And then I'm gonna have a conversation with you a week or a month from now and be like, hey, did you do that thing?
21:56: You'll be like, no.
21:57: I'll be like, well, I don't want to tell you, right?
22:01: And that's a big part of finding something that is aligned with you, and that's another big part of accountability, right?
22:07: A lot of people say they're going to do things.
22:11: I have seen a lot of people say a lot of things and a lot of people don't do a lot of things, right?
22:16: There's a lot of people out there who are all talk and no action.
22:20: A lot of talk and no action.
22:22: So what are you?
22:23: Are you more action, less talk?
22:25: Are you more talk and less action?
22:27: OK.
22:28: Actions speak louder than words, and my favorite type of people are the ones that just go out there and do it and then ask questions, right?
22:36: And they're the ones that are not afraid to ask for help, as uncomfortable as it is, right?
22:41: I used to squirm.
22:43: I'm like, oh my God, this is so uncomfortable, but I have to ask you for help, right?
22:47: Like, just be raw and real and push through those uncomfortable moments.
22:53: Just push through, man, like.
22:55: Embrace the suck cause it's not gonna get, I mean, eventually it will get easier, but like that first moment, it's not gonna get any easier.
23:03: Like you just have to embrace it, right?
23:07: It's those mental push-ups.
23:08: You just gotta do it, OK?
23:11: All right, ladies.
23:13: That is what I have for you, and just know that it can be a roller coaster, but if you hang in there, you will find success.
23:21: You will find success, OK?
23:25: All right.
23:25: You know where to find me if you need some help.
23:28: Got some big, big plans for 2025.
23:32: So if you jump on this bandwagon before 2025 hits, you will be grandfathered into all the cool shit that I got coming.
23:40: So hop on my calendar before then and I'll make sure you get a piece of that pie.
23:45: So have a good one and we'll catch you later.
