0:00: Hey, ladies, welcome back to the Sales Mama podcast.
0:05: As always, I'm your host, Sausha Davis.
0:08: I'm actually heading home from good Old Target.
0:13: So we like to call it t hopefully, I'm not the only one that calls it that when I was growing up, we called it Tar and Wally World.
0:24: I don't know, maybe I'm alone on those, but we always had nicknames for all the stores that we went to.
0:30: And in the Midwest we had Menards.
0:32: We'd call it Maynards or Maynards or, I don't know, we'd make up all kinds of funny names for the stores that we went to and we'd always say that funny.
0:45: Oh, what are they called?
0:46: The, the catch songs, you know, like save big money at my arms.
 0:53: So, anyhoo, I digress.
0:56: I'm on my way home from that.
0:58: We have Christmas pictures today and instead of doing outdoor pictures, like we always do for family Christmas photos, I decided we were gonna do the Jammy Photos.
1:09: So this will be interesting.
1:12: I bought matching jammy sets except for they didn't have a full family matching set.
1:19: You know, there's six of us now.
1:21: So I got three of one and three of another and they're close enough, like one of them is kind of like a whitish set and the other one's kind of like a greenish bluish set.
 1:31: They're all plaid.
1:32: So, I mean, like they're pretty similar.
1:34: We're gonna call it good.
1:35: And then I got us like fuzzy funny socks.
1:37: So it should be good.
 1:38: It should be funny.
 1:39: So that's today.
1:41: Nothing like waiting until the last minute in good old Sasha fashion.
1:46: So, you know, the shoot is at 1115, it's 930 in the morning.
 1:52: Yep.
1:53: That's how we roll around here.
1:55: Any who I had this question recently from a listener and she had said, you know, how do you stay motivated and how do you have so much energy to stay motivated?
2:12: And I really got to thinking about this because I don't think I really have a lot of motivation.
2:21: I know that I have a lot of energy, but I don't know if I have a lot of motivation.
2:25: And so I wanna talk about that today because there are some days where I feel like I'm just beating my head against a wall.
2:33: You know, I feel like I've reached a dead end and I want to throw my hands up in the air and I wanna say, burn it all down.
 2:40: Fuck it.
2:40: Why do I even try?
2:41: You know, I have those days, I have those days frequently throughout the month.
2:47: And I don't think it's motivation that keeps me going.
2:52: I think it's discipline and I think it's reconnecting with my why and why I'm doing this.
2:59: And so those are the things that I want to talk about today because motivation comes in sprints, it comes in bursts, right?
3:07: Like all of a sudden you'll have an idea that drops in your head.
3:12: You know, you guys get those bursts of inspiration, bursts of motivation where you're like, oh my God, I want to run with this.
3:19: Use that anytime you have a creative idea or you feel really inspired to do something, use that?
 3:28: OK.
3:28: But be very mindful of it that it's not a way to procrastinate.
 3:33: OK?
3:34: I think a lot of times people will use shiny object syndrome as a way to avoid the thing that they actually need to be doing and not getting the things done that are going to move the needle forward in their business.
 3:50: OK?
3:50: So just be very mindful and ask yourself, OK?
3:54: Is this thing that I feel really fired and motivated to do right now?
3:58: Is this actually going to be moving me closer to my goals or is this just another shiny object that is not actually going to help me in the big picture?
4:08: And if this isn't going to be something that's going to really help you right now, you can put it in a parking lot, OK?
4:15: It's not that you never have to do it.
4:17: I have a whole parking lot of ideas.
4:19: I have an idea board, an idea journal and I'm like, all right, we're going to put this in the idea parking lot for some day when.
 4:26: Right.
4:27: It's not that I'm never going to do it.
4:28: It's just that I don't have the capacity for it right now, but I'm still going to use that energy, that inspiration, that motivation to fuel me to keep going.
 4:38: Ok?
4:39: But there are some times where you want to tap into that creative energy and allow yourself, you know, an hour or two to kind of play in that energy, right?
4:49: Because that's actually going to energize you to be able to do other things as well.
 4:54: All right.
4:55: So don't always pooh pooh on your ideas or pooh pooh on your freedom to be creative.
 5:03: OK?
5:04: Like you started your business, you're growing your business because you wanted to do something different.
5:11: So let yourself do something different.
5:13: You don't always have to, you know, work in these confines of a box like you were when you were in your corporate job or when you were in a 9 to 5 or whatever, you know, capacity you used to work in, you left that so that you could make your own rules.
5:28: So don't put rules right back in there that put you right back in a place that's gonna make you feel stuck, that just seems so stupid right?
5:38: So allow yourself to have that creative time every once in a while.
5:43: Don't let it be a way for you to procrastinate though.
5:47: So it's kind of a gray area.
5:49: So you have to be very self aware when you're doing this.
5:54: And if you're not that self, if you're not, if you don't know how to become that self aware, this is where a guide or a mentor or a coach or somebody to call you out on your shit can be very, very helpful.
6:04: They'll be like, yo, you're fucking around like stop it, you know, quit procrastinating.
6:09: That's a shiny object, shiny object, shiny object.
 6:11: Get back to work.
 6:12: OK?
6:14: And so what really keeps me going because I love to daydream.
6:18: I love to daydream, right?
6:20: I'm like, oh we're gonna do this, we're gonna do this, we're gonna conquer the world like I really get, you know, like this is time I can get really I can get really into it.
 6:32: Let's just say that.
6:33: But then there's other days where I go like way too hard and I'm like, burn it all down, throw a match on it.
6:39: Like I'm done, I'm done walking away like I quit and then my team will be like, you can't quit.
 6:46: You're, you're flying the plane, I'm like, I know, I'm sorry guys.
6:51: So what keeps me going is discipline like there's other people relying on me.
7:00: It's not just me, my family relies on me.
7:04: My team relies on me.
7:06: My client relies on me.
7:07: This is bigger than me.
7:09: So who am I to just give up?
 7:13: Right?
7:14: You start to flip the script on your impostor syndrome.
7:17: So you know, when you first get started, you're like, who am I to do this?
7:20: Who am I to do this?
7:21: Who am I to do this?
 7:22: It starts to shift.
7:24: Who am I not to do this?
7:26: Who am I not to do this?
7:29: Who am I to keep this knowledge to myself?
7:33: Who am I to just keep playing small?
7:38: Who am I to get stuck in my head and in my own way and not help these people who really need it?
7:46: Do you see how I'm like flipping that mindset there?
7:50: It's no longer imposter syndrome about who am I to teach this or who am I to do this and put this?
7:56: Like who am I not to?
7:59: And that's what keeps me going because I have seen how much of an impact the things that I teach and the things that I do have made.
8:09: And it even feels weird for me to say that to this day because I still like, it still feels weird because I have this.
 8:19: I feel like I'm being cockier.
8:20: I feel like I'm being arrogant because, you know, for me, it just, it comes natural, it comes easy.
8:26: And when I teach it, you know, I, I see how much of an impact it makes.
8:32: And for me, I'm like, oh, yeah, it's no big deal.
8:34: And then people are, you know, they're like crying, they're, you know, they're so excited.
8:40: Like, it's literally changed their lives.
8:42: It's changed things for their business, for their family, for their community.
8:47: I mean, it has had this huge ripple effect and I think sometimes I forget to really take that in and it can be hard for me like I'm, I'm still very much working on how much of an impact it makes.
9:02: I'm consciously aware of it, but I'm, I'm trying to allow myself to receive that on a much deeper level and it can be hard for me just, just know that that's something that I'm working on.
9:16: But I have flipped my mindset to more of staying disciplined and what do I need to do to keep showing up on a consistent basis because this is bigger than me.
9:35: And people need me and people need to hear this stuff.
9:39: My family needs me, my animals need me, my horses, need me, my community needs me, my clients need me, right?
9:46: And so I have to take care of myself so that I'm showing up as my best, right?
9:52: Because nobody wants a half ass version of me.
9:54: I have to keep putting myself out there because if I don't, nobody's going to know that I exist, I have to keep putting content out there.
10:02: Because if I don't, nobody's going to know what I have to say.
 10:05: Right?
10:06: I have to keep talking about the same damn thing over and over and over even though it feels so stupid and so silly and so repetitive because it's going to be brand new information for somebody out there.
10:19: Even if you are so sick of talking about it, it is going to be brand new information for somebody out there.
 10:24: Ok?
10:25: And even when you feel like giving up the universe and God and spirit is going to say how bad do you want it?
10:32: And then boom, the next day, you're gonna be rewarded, you're gonna be rewarded.
10:37: It happens to me all the dang time.
10:38: Like the other day, I was like, ready to again, like I'm like, I fucking quit you guys.
10:43: And then boom, this week, you know, I have a handful of clients rolling in, you know, and it's just, it's wild to see how that works, you know, and I go through it, everybody goes through it and I have, you know, all the quote unquote things in place.
10:58: I still experience the highs and lows like I'm not exempt from it.
11:03: You know, I've, I've maybe be a little bit farther along than some of the other, you know, folks, right?
11:09: You know, like I have a team I've been doing this for, you know, almost a decade and, you know, even before that, I, I managed teams, I, you know, was in corporate management, you know, like I have different levels of,, experience, you know, but I don't think that I am above or below anybody.
 11:26: I'm still just a human.
11:28: I still have feelings, I still have emotions.
 11:32: Right.
11:32: , and so what keeps me quote, unquote motivated isn't necessarily motivation.
 11:40: I think it's discipline.
11:42: I think it's looking around and seeing all the things that we've done and we've built and it would be a real big shame if we just let it go.
11:53: And sometimes, I mean, you know, sometimes it's, you know, all things, all good things come to an end at some point.
 12:00: Right.
12:00: I mean, maybe, maybe not.
12:03: And I think we know when to quit and when to keep going.
12:07: But on the days it gets really, really tough.
12:11: I just, you know, sometimes I slow down, I take a look around and look at, you know, my kids and my team and, you know, all the things that we have really, really worked hard for, you know, and not too long ago, like, five years ago I was dreaming about the life that I have now.
12:29: Like I was living in Iowa.
12:31: , not really happy with where I was, you know.
12:35: , I mean, yeah, I had my business and, you know, there was a lot of good things going for me but I was not where I wanted to be mentally, physically, financially, all those things and I am in a completely different place now, like physically but mentally, emotionally and financially, like everything has shifted and it wasn't necessarily motivation that kept me going.
 13:00: It was discipline.
13:01: It was like I got goals, you know, I'm gonna keep going and trust the plan, trust the process and keep taking action every single day, no matter how uncomfortable it is.
13:13: Even if it's teeny tiny baby action steps, you know, doing my meditations, doing my affirmations, getting up, taking care of myself, going on walks, drinking my water, putting myself out there making the connections.
13:29: you know, sticking to my goals.
13:31: like all the things that I talk about, you know, it's more than just ads, it's more than just sales.
13:39: It's more than just marketing.
 13:41: It's, it's mindset, it's energy, it's connections, it's relationships, it's networking, it's money mindset, it's budgeting.
 13:49: It's it's writing down your goals.
 13:53: It's, it's praying, it's meditating.
13:56: It's all the things like everything within you has to believe that this is possible because you can have all the right systems and strategies in place.
14:08: But if you're not showing up and if you don't actually believe it's going to happen, guess what?
14:12: It's not going to happen.
14:14: I, I hate to say it but it's not gonna happen or it's gonna happen and you're not gonna be happy with it and then what?
14:19: It's all gonna go to shit anyways.
 14:21: OK?
14:22: So what keeps me motivated?
 14:24: What keeps me inspired.
14:27: I guess if I had to say something, kept me motivated and kept me inspired is seeing the results that other people get like and seeing validation that what I'm doing is actually working.
14:40: Like those would be the things that I absolutely love seeing.
14:46: Like they're the things that just warm your heart and bring tears to your eyes, right?
14:49: Like every time I get a message that's like, oh my God, Sasha, this, this this and this, I'm just like, oh my God, yes, this is it, this is it.
15:01: You know, it's just the coolest fricking thing in the whole world.
15:06: So think about what you can do to stay on track, to stay disciplined to keep showing up every single day.
15:18: And one thing that I had my clients do and if you ever work with me, I'll probably make you do this too is to record a 2 to 3 minute video of yourself on why you need to keep going.
15:33: And when things get tough, you watch that video of yourself because then you're gonna pep, talk yourself and that's gonna mean a hell of a lot more than if somebody else comes along and it's just like do this, do this, do this because you are hearing it from you.
 15:50: OK?
15:52: Try that, see if it works.
15:54: But really though discipline is what's gonna keep you going, use that little bit of motivation and inspiration to keep you going.
16:02: Use those wins as, you know, validation and burst of energy to, you know, keep you moving forward.
16:10: But that discipline that showing up every single day and taking action, even if it's those baby steps, because let's be honest, not every day is gonna be rainbows and kitty cats.
16:21: So on those days that it really, really sucks.
16:24: What is just one thing that you can do to show up and let that be enough?
 16:32: Ok?
 16:33: And that's it.
 16:35: That is it.
16:36: That is how you keep going.
16:37: That is how you keep moving the needle forward.
16:39: That is how you keep compounding your business.
16:41: And one day you're gonna look around and be like holy shit.
16:44: Look at this, look at the life I've built for myself and that my friends, that's how you do it.
 16:52: That's how we roll.
 16:54: All right.
16:55: That's all I got for you today off to do Christmas photos.
 16:59: OK?
 17:00: Check you later.
