0:00: Hey, what's up?
0:01: Welcome to the Sales Mama podcast.
0:03: I'm your host, Sausha Davis.
0:04: I'm actually on my way to a riding lesson today.
0:09: I actually scored some weekly one on one lessons with a trainer that I have been wanting to get in with for a couple of years now.
0:18: but our schedules didn't align and then she was full and then I was having babies and you know, all the things.
0:25: So I got four kids.
0:27: My youngest is oops, like, gosh, she just turned one not too long ago.
0:33: So 1415 months, I know I'm terrible at this.
0:36: Like after you have multiples, you just kind of start forgetting that kind of stuff, you know, and then people ask me how old I am and I'm like, I actually have to start thinking about it anybody else.
0:50: So, but a funny story before I get into the topic that I want to talk about today, which is how to attract more leads, ideal clients, people who are aligned with your mission, your vision, your brand.
1:05: I wanna share a funny story with you guys this weekend because everything can just change in the snap of the fingers.
1:13: Right.
1:14: So Friday, I was doing some branding photos with my big mare Dixie, which is the one that I've taken to,, writing lessons with the trainer.
1:24: , not that, I mean, I'm a pretty decent writer.
1:28: I've been writing my whole life but I want to work on more of the fine tuning stuff.
1:33: , yeah, more of the, more of the fancy stuff.
1:37: Right.
1:37: And my horse just has never done fancy stuff and I've never really competed at any, you know, higher levels and that's something that I want to get into.
1:47: Right.
1:47: So I found a trainer to help me get that way and my horse has never really been asked to do a lot of those things.
1:53: Let's just start with that.
1:55: But anyway, so Friday, I have these branding photos.
1:58: I had this like killer outfit that I have bought from boot barn on sale.
2:03: It was like a total glitter suit.
2:05: So if you go check out either my Sasha dot Davis page or my sales mama school page, you'll see what I'm talking about and super awesome outfit.
2:14: Loved it.
2:15: I've had it for a while, but I just was waiting for an excuse to wear it basically.
2:19: So I finally got to wear it and the photos turned out great.
2:22: I loved my horse is being awesome.
2:24: She's so good at the shoot and she usually does really well with pictures like she's had her pictures taken a lot.
2:29: A lot of times I've done maternity pictures with her.
2:31: I mean, she's been with me since she's been two years old.
2:33: She's 14 now.
2:34: So I had her a long time.
2:36: She's had her fair share of pictures taken.
2:39: So Friday, wonderful.
2:41: Had a great time.
2:43: Fine and dandy all the things.
2:45: And then Saturday we went to the rock museum nearby, which was also really cool.
2:52: Total chill day.
2:53: No big deal.
2:54: Sunday rolls around.
2:55: I'm like, yeah, you know, this trainer that I'm going to see, she's also got group riding lessons and I've been meaning to do those as well.
3:02: But, you know, kids schedules Sundays.
3:04: It's just been kind of hectic.
3:06: Finally.
3:07: I'm like, oh, I'm going to squeeze in one of these Sundays.
3:09: They're like 90 minute sessions.
3:11: Usually there's like 10 or 15 people there.
3:13: So I go there and one of the things that we've been working with my horse is loping, cantering and she just, she, she don't want to do it.
3:23: , there's nothing wrong with her.
3:25: She's just, she's a big fat, lazy horse and it takes a lot for her to get going.
3:32: I mean, she's a, she's a big horse and she does, she can do it.
3:35: I mean, she does it out in the field, like going up hills and when she's in a hurry, but she just has zero interest in a round pin or when you're exercising her when you're on her back.
3:46: Like, she's just like, you can't make me right.
3:49: So, that's one thing that we've been working on and she protests and anyway, she's a big horse to be protesting and I know she's kind of set in her ways being like a 14 year old.
3:58: So we've been just, like, slowly working our way into it.
4:01: Well, she totally blew up on me on Sunday and, I mean, I, I, I don't even think I asked her that much.
4:12: I think it just kind of like, built up and the tension from like the other horses doing it too.
4:18: That like, because we were just trotting and like in the corner where everybody was asking their horses to lope, all I did was like, cue her to lope and she just blew up.
4:31: I mean, she, I was not ready for it, like, every other time she's kind of done it.
4:35: She kind of like, tenses up and I could kind of like, feel that she was, you know, enough to where I could kind of like, control the situation, get her to just kind of like, chill out.
4:43: Like it's not that big of a deal, you know, get her to kind of calm back down.
4:46: No, she, I mean, like, caught me by surprise and normally I have a pretty sticky seat, but my foot kind of swung back my right foot and when my right foot swung back, I lost my balance and So I kind of swung up, like my upper body swung up on her neck and it was game over for anybody who's, you know, had horses.
5:11: Like, you just, you know, when you get up on their neck and kind of over the, like over your, your weight over the seat, you're just, it's game over.
5:19: And I mean, it was game over.
5:23: Like, the only thing I was thinking about is like, please God, don't break your freaking arms, you know, and it just reminds me of how important it is to learn how to fall.
5:34: This was something that I used to teach as an instructor for those of you who don't know, I used to be a therapeutic writing instructor for many years actually.
5:42: And, you know, the parents used to be like, why do you teach the kids how to fall?
5:45: Well, that's why because it's not a matter of if you fall, it's a matter of when you fall.
5:50: Anybody who's been around horses long enough knows that, you know, it will happen whether it's on accident or on purpose or, you know, normally it's not on purpose, you know what I mean?
5:59: But it just, sometimes it happens and animals or animals, they can be unpredictable, doesn't matter how trained they are, sometimes they can spook, sometimes they have bad days and this day was just a particularly bad day.
6:14: And so we're still working on it and I'm not mad at her as soon as she, you know, kicked me off, she stopped, she came right up to me.
6:20: I mean, she felt real bad.
6:22: It's not like she tried to stop me or anything.
6:24: But I mean, hell, she, like, totally knocked the wind out of me and I ate shit.
6:31: I mean, like I ate shit.
6:33: I had stopped my fall, you know, I did like the whole tuck and roll thing, but I still, you know, skidded my face across the, you know, the arena dirt.
6:43: So I was like picking pedals out of my face and I mean, knock the wind out of me and you know, it hurt my ego probably more than anything.
6:51: But like now this has been a couple of days and I am so fucking so you guys, I'm like, I do not bounce like I did when I was a teen or in my twenties.
6:59: And like, I, it makes me feel really old now that I'm saying that but it is what it is.
7:04: And so then I was taking, you know, a bath the other day because I'm like, oh I'm just gonna like soak and feel better.
7:10: I have a bruise the size of my freaking hand on my inner thigh, on my left inner thigh where I like racked myself on the saddle.
7:20: And I mean that sucker is black.
7:24: It is black.
7:25: It's so funny because I was sharing it with my clients and my husband's like, quit showing, I I wasn't actually showing my vagina but he's like, quit showing your vagina to your clients.
7:35: Like it's not my vagina, it's just my thigh.
7:37: But I'm like, hey guys, you want to see my pros?
7:40: I feel like the cool kid.
7:42: But anyways, so it just shows you that like shit can change, like things can change at the drop of a hat, right?
7:49: So like one day everything's hunky dory and the next day it can be a shit show, right?
7:56: And that is life that is life.
7:59: You gotta roll with the punches, you gotta get back on and you gotta keep on keeping on, ok?
8:06: You just have to keep going.
8:09: So what is life doing for you right now?
8:12: Where do you feel like you're getting bucked off?
8:14: Ok.
8:15: Maybe it's physically, maybe it's mentally, maybe it's emotionally or financially.
8:19: How can you get back on the horse and keep on going?
8:22: Ok.
8:24: The next thing I want to talk about I was getting asked today or maybe it was yesterday, what are of my favorite ways to get new leads to generate new leads that are quality leads that can engage with you.
8:40: And so I want to share just a few strategies that have worked really well for me, for my business model and that maybe you can incorporate into your business.
8:50: And so a few things that I am currently using are one are referrals and networking.
8:56: I'm really big on referrals and networking.
8:58: So always trying to find ways to connect with people on a daily and weekly basis.
9:04: Sorry, like everything is shaking in my car.
9:07: So hopefully it's not too distracting.
9:10: So connecting with other colleagues doing coffee dates.
9:13: I'm actually part of a couple of women networking groups locally.
9:17: And so I have been starting to go to coffee dates with those gals and that's been kind of like eye opening and not that they're necessarily ideal clients, but they may have ideal clients for me, right?
9:30: So it's the referral system, it's the networking system, the same thing with online.
9:35: OK.
9:35: So you can find other people that have similar networks or similar niche as you or similar audience as you and you can network with them.
9:47: Maybe you guys can collaborate on something, you know, you have different offerings but you can network.
9:52: So even if they're not, you know, your ideal client per S E you can still have conversations with them, you know, maybe have a virtual cup of coffee, maybe actually meet up in real time and have a cup of coffee or meet at the park.
10:03: Bring your kids go on horseback, you know, it doesn't have to be every day, but maybe once a week, once a month, you don't do something along those lines.
10:10: You just have to get out there and meet people.
10:13: Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to new people.
10:15: Right.
10:16: There's always opportunities around every single corner.
10:18: Ok.
10:19: And don't be afraid to ask for referrals.
10:21: So if you're already working with people, which if you're listening to my podcast, chances are you are already in business or have been in business for some time?
10:29: Ask your clients, hey, who do you know that would really benefit from this same thing?
10:35: Ok.
10:35: Ask every client for 3 to 5 referrals and if your clients are really hesitant on giving you referrals, it's either one, they don't have anybody that is even remotely close to what you would be.
10:48: You know, what, what you have to offer, they don't know anybody that has what you would, you know, would use what you have to offer or two.
10:56: Maybe they don't feel comfortable because they're not getting the results, which is a you thing, right?
11:00: So then you have to ask them, well, what would make this really easy for you to share or what would make this even better that you could scream it from the rooftops type of thing?
11:08: So that's a self reflection type of thing, you know, how can we make this so that you want to refer more people to us?
11:15: And this is where you can have like referral incentives, affiliate incentives, referral codes, affiliate codes, all of that good stuff.
11:21: So that's like a whole another topic for another day.
11:24: But be sure that you're asking for the referrals, asking for the introductions asking for people to, you know, share your stuff.
11:32: , it only takes, you know, two seconds and if people are annoyed by it, whatever, they're not your people who gives a shit.
11:37: Right.
11:37: , that's just like one thing that you can kind of consistently do and not on like, an irritating basis where you're doing it, like, all day, every day, like those cold D MERS where they're like, oh my God, can I share in your page for a chance to win $1000?
11:50: Not that kind of stuff like in real, in real life where you walk up to somebody and you're like, hey, you know, I'm Sasha.
11:55: I actually run a sales and marketing business or I, you know, I'm a sales consultant or I'm a business consultant and this is what I do, you know, you say it with confidence and, you know, casually, it's not like over the top and irritating, right?
12:11: There's a difference and then the second thing that I like to do is I actually really enjoy live events.
12:17: So depending on what your business model is, whether you have like a product or a service, you can do this in both ways, right?
12:24: I work with people who have product based businesses and I work with people who have service based businesses.
12:28: And so you can either do in person events or you can do virtual events.
12:32: So I like live trainings.
12:34: I like live workshops.
12:35: I like live seminars.
12:37: I also like real live events.
12:39: So whether they are, you know, paint and sip or a shopping experience or a retreat or a candle pouring or a crafting event or a horseback riding or, I mean, there is so many things that you can do to draw people to your event.
13:00: Ok.
13:01: And you can start to invite people, you can do sales for your tickets or you can do free events and then at those events, you can Upsell them into whatever product or service you have to offer by giving some type of special offer since they were part of that free event.
13:18: Ok.
13:19: I particularly like live trainings.
13:21: I try to do them once or twice a month and then in my live trainings, I Upsell into some type of service that would be working with me beyond that.
13:31: Ok.
13:31: So that can be some type of diy that can be into, you know, one of my group offers or it can be working with me further into like a one on one capacity, right?
13:41: There is even like retreat experience opportunities as well.
13:44: So if you have some type of service online, think about how you can start to incorporate live events into your offerings.
13:54: Even if it's just once a month funnel people into it, like, you know, get people to come, there can interact with them live and even if nobody shows up live, do it anyways, record it anyways act as if, OK, because you can use this as a funnel for an evergreen.
14:16: Like you can use this as an evergreen funnel.
14:17: OK.
14:18: What do I mean by an evergreen funnel?
14:20: Meaning that we can then run ads to a landing page or you can just have some type of, you know, pop up or you know, landing page on your main site or on your social media, something along those lines where people go to a page, they opt into something and it takes them to this live training, this master class, this video, whatever it is that you had recorded and they get access to it whenever they want.
14:46: So you recorded it once, but people can view it all the time.
14:51: OK?
14:52: And you can also do something similar to me where I do live ones and I'm like, hey, you got to show up live, right?
14:59: So you can kind of do like this.
15:03: I don't know how you want to say it, but it's like creating a sense of urgency.
15:08: So I've done it both ways where I'm like, hey, I offer replays and hey, I don't offer replays.
15:13: And so there's benefits to both and you can play around with them to see what your audience likes best and then go from there, right?
15:21: But I do like to have just some replays in my back pocket just in case, you know, I have somebody who's like, really interested and they're like, hey, I want to know what it's like working with you, then you have something that you can send them, right?
15:32: And then another thing that I like to have to generate leads obviously is social media.
15:39: So pick what social media you like best that you are on most, start there and grow from there.
15:48: I don't think that you need to be on all platforms at all times.
15:52: In the beginning.
15:53: I feel like you need to like pick one and really master that one and then move on to the next one.
15:57: Do I feel like you need to use them all at some point?
15:59: Yes, absolutely.
16:01: But start where you're at and grow from there and all the modalities like all the social medias are a little bit different.
16:08: So you don't necessarily want to like copy paste, copy paste, copy paste, you want to tweak it fine tune it a little bit for each different platform.
16:17: OK?
16:18: And when you're bringing in revenue, start setting aside a certain amount of that revenue for ad spend.
16:26: So when I have cold traffic, I usually have cold traffic coming to a free offer or just to my page so they can get to know me a little bit more.
16:38: And then I have like a retargeting campaign that will take them to a low ticket offer or like a medium ticket offer or to, you know, get on a phone call or something along those lines because honestly it can be really hard to get people to go from cold traffic to a mid to high ticket offer right out the bat not saying that it's impossible.
17:01: At some point, it becomes a numbers game.
17:04: And if you have the capacity to take like tons and tons of calls, then by all means like go for it.
17:09: But in my experience, it is easier to drive traffic to your page, kind of feel people out and then retarget those people who are, you know, qualified and then get them onto your newsletter and off of social media.
17:29: OK?
17:30: That is one step closer to being your client because then you own those clients, right?
17:36: Because social media can be taken from you at any time.
17:38: You don't own that.
17:39: You don't have control over that.
17:41: And this is a better way for you to build your list.
17:43: You can nurture them and they are more qualified.
17:47: They're one step closer to you in the funnel.
17:52: So if you think about a funnel, you have awareness, you have engagement, you have the decision and then you have the sale, ok?
17:58: They're one step closer in the funnel.
18:00: Buying in the funnel when they go from social media or from that awareness stage into like your email, they're getting to know you a little bit more.
18:09: Now they're thinking about buying from you.
18:11: OK?
18:12: So that is what I do.
18:14: That is how I build awareness, those are kind of like my top three ways.
18:18: Are there more ways?
18:19: Absolutely.
18:19: Yes.
18:20: Put yourself out there.
18:22: Try a few.
18:23: Come at it with a curiosity standpoint and don't be afraid to fail.
18:28: Ok.
18:29: Fail forward.
18:30: All right.
18:31: If you got, if you got any questions, hit me up.
18:33: We got a live training coming up.
18:35: Again this week, Thursday, November 14th sales mama dot biz slash live or hit me up on one of the social media channels.
18:44: Sasha dot Davis or sales mama school and we'll hook you up with a link.
18:49: All right, catch you next time.
